Fee Fi Fo Fum… I smell a new counting activity book based on a classic tale!

21 Sep

Miles Kelly, an independent kids’ book publisher in the UK, created a series of wipe-clean math activity books, based on classic fairy tales. I was happy to be selected to work on Jack and the Beanstalk! It was a super-specific brief, as each spread from one to ten had to have increasing numbers of repeated elements fit in, along with all the usual information needed to tell the story. It was a bit tricky but also fun to create the world of this grumpy giant and his bemused giantess wife.

We Are All the Best Chef!

26 Oct

lw_bestchef_yikes_1000Repeat client Yeamoonsa Bien House, an educational publishing house in South Korea, gave me this wacky and adorable story to illustrate. It’s about a restaurant run by animals, and the food is HORRIBLE. Nobody is happy. So, the staff go on a hunt for “The Best Chef”. Each applicant has his or her own specialty (unfortunately the silly quail’s specialty is worms – yuck!), and they all really want to help. In the end, of course the solution is teamwork, and the animals learn that, together, “We are all the BEST CHEF!”

To see more of my anthropomorphic animal art and some more appetizing food art as well, please check out my portfolio. Bon appetit!
