Watters Publishing, a new publishing company focused on kids’ health promotion in a fun way, selected me (lucky me!) to illustrate their debut title, The Measly Virus. The book promotes a positive message about vaccination through telling the story of a sneaky and cantankerous virus monster, and one brave girl who takes a stand and becomes a vaccinated superhero! Not only were the illustrations super-fun to create, but this book supports a cause I believe in fervently – everyone who can be vaccinated against preventable diseases should be, to maintain herd immunity and protect the more vulnerable in our communities. Also, part of the proceeds from sales go to the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation in Australia to help eradicate Pertussis from Australia, in memory of little Riley Hughes, a 4-week-old baby boy who sadly died of Pertussis (whooping cough) as he was too young to be vaccinated and relied on herd immunity to protect him (read more about Riley here).
